St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Mountain Home
A welcoming, prayerful community devoted to love of God and one another, in Christ.

Announcements for the Week of August 1, 2010

Membership Updates: If you did not get a Membership Update form last week or need another one, there are more at the back of the church. We are asking every member to complete one for us to update your church files. If you have any questions, please call the church office or visit with your vicar. If you are new to St. Andrew’s and would like membership information, please ask the vicar for the Membership Information and Form at the back of the church as you leave today.

Church Announcements: Over the past several months when I’ve invited members to make announcements, I’ve been noticing that announcements being made at the 8:00 service are not being made at the 10:30 service – and vice versa. Please help me correct this by submitting all announcements in writing by the Wednesday morning before the Sunday Service (in time to be in bulletin). I will no longer be asking for “other announcements,” but will welcome those who have submitted the announcements to make the announcement in church, if desired.

Thank you, Jim+

Give Meaning to Life: We will continue our discussion on the book, Living a Life that Matters, by Rabbi Harold S. Kushner this Sunday.

St. Andrew’s to Help with Camp: Father Jim, Sharon Boatright, Cathy McDonald, and Cooky Schroeder will be serving on the staff of Robert R. Brown Camp this August 7 – 12. The Robert R. Brown Camp is a special ministry of our diocese which offers mentally and physically challenged adults (most of whom live in group homes) the opportunity to experience Summer Camp. The camp is lead by volunteers from all over the diocese, including a large number of Episcopal youth. Please keep our members, the campers and the staff of Camp Mitchell in your prayers.

Father Dennis to Celebrate and Preach August 8th: We are grateful to Father Dennis for agreeing to celebrate and preach on August 8th while Father Jim is at Camp Mitchell.

Saturday Afternoon at the Movies: Saturday Afternoon at the Movies is coming to St. Andrew’s. Thanks to your generous contributions to the Second Mile Ministry Fund, we now have a projector and sound system and wish to show them off by providing you relief from the heat on Saturday, August 14th, at 3 PM in Keller Hall. Please bring your own drinks; the popcorn will be provided. The movie, The Blind Side, will be shown with permission (money from the Second Mile Ministry is also being used to purchase a license to show the movies from most major studios).

Divine Dinners Are Coming in September: We will again offer members the opportunity to gather in homes in groups of six to eight for lunch or dinner, conversation, and more. Please make plans to join us for an informational potluck dinner this August 15th at 5:30 pm if you are interested in participating. A sign-up sheet for the potluck is in the Narthex.

The Giving Tree: St. Andrew’s is collecting food for the St. Andrew’s Food Closet and the Food Basket. Please consider picking up an extra can of vegetables, tuna fish, peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti and sauce, or other non-perishable items each time you shop. Even just a bag of pinto beans or rice can make a big difference and serve as a reminder that God calls us to share what we have with others.

Cards Requested: Sebastian Paul, a member of our Church, is a patient at Millcreek of Arkansas. He is expected to be a patient there for several months. His grandmother, Christine Harrmann, has requested members send him a card just to let him know we're thinking about him. You can send the cards to: Sebastian Paul, c/o Millcreek of Arkansas, Deer Field Cottage, PO Box 727, Fordyce, AR 71742.

EYC Back to School Party: We are starting an EYC (Episcopal Youth Community) this fall, with a Back to School Party on August 20th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with pizza and a movie. The party is open to all youth, grades 6th through 8th. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please share this announcement and have them call the church office for details. 425-3560.
