St. Andrew’s Announcements
for the week of March 7, 2010

Mary Magdalene Lecture: Joan Baldridge will present a lecture titled: "Mary Magdalene: Saint or Sinner? Are You Sure?" on MARCH 13, 2010, from 9 am to Noon, followed by lunch. Cost for lunch is $5.00. Ms. Baldridge is a noted scholar on Mary Magdalene and how she was portrayed in art from the third century to the twenty first century. In her lecture she will also examine the scriptural and non-scriptural basis for the many stories and myths about this popular saint. She calls the lectures a work-in-progress, constantly being revised and expanded.

Disaster Relief: Once again an earthquake has devastated a country-this time Chile. The Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) is standing by waiting to help, but all that has been requested at this time is our prayer. The vicar will send contributions to ERD from this congregation once the call is made. If you wish to contribute, please note ERD in the memo line of your check.

Stations of the Cross: The Daughters of the King would like to invite everybody to walk the Stations of the Cross with us during Lent starting 3-19-2010. We will pray the Stations of the Cross every Friday in Lent at 12 noon ending 3-26-2010. The object of the Stations is to help the faithful to make in spirit a pilgrimage to the chief scenes of Christ's sufferings and death, and this has become one of the most popular devotions of Churches all over the world. It is carried out by passing from Station to Station, with certain prayers at each and devout meditation on the various incidents in the Passion of Christ.

March Giving Tree: The giving tree outreach for this month is a collection of school supplies for Nelson-Wilkes-Herron School. Watch the tree for a list of needed supplies.

Holy Week Schedule: [Note the change in the schedule for Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday.] We will have the Wednesday Eucharist, a Maundy Thursday service at 5:30, Good Friday service at noon, Easter Vigil at 8:00 pm and two services on Easter Sunday: 8:00 and 10:30. An Easter Egg Hunt will be held after the 10:30 Service.

Pub Theology: Our next meeting of Pub Theology will be March 3rd at 6:00. Childcare is available upon request. Please contact Amanda Freudensprung at 424-0884, or by e-mail at amandadawn05@centurytel.net.

Calligrapher Needed: If you or anyone you know is a calligrapher, please let Megan in the church office know. We have a need to update one of the church documents and need your help.

Vestry Highlights: At the recent vestry meeting, the Vision Statement, Goals, and Plans for 2010 developed at the Vestry Retreat were approved. Steve Cushing was elected to serve as our Junior Warden. In addition, the vestry approved the establishment of a Second Mile Giving Fund, a designated account for contribution to expand our ministries.

Adult Forum: We are now discussing Russill Paul's book, Jesus in the Lotus. If you did not get a copy, there are some in the office. The cost is $10.00 and the check should be made out to Melinda Motley. Please join in the conversation. It's always interesting and uplifting!
