Background
Live oak trees, azaleas and gravesites, surrounded Old St. Andrew's Parish Church in Charleston South Carolina. Gravesites that date back to the 1700's with headstones worn beyond recognition lie alongside those of recent interments. There is a sense of timelessness, and continuity of life in this setting. Although it is marginal theology, it is comforting to believe that we are closer to our loved ones when their remains are around the church.
The once common practice of burial grounds at the church has given in to modern ways yet there is a resurgence of the desire to keep the remains of our loved ones near us. We accomplish this at St. Andrew's Mountain Home through the use of a Columbarium located in the the memorial garden. It is mounted on a wall in the garden in the form of a cross and it contains space for the cremains of twenty-four persons. Expansion plans include additional wall space and in ground internment.
If you desire to learn more about the columbarium and it's ministry or to purchase one or more spaces please contact the vicar by email her at vicar@standrewsusa.org
